The home is a fine example of Victorian architecture in the Queen Anne style. Built in 1890, it features a three story turret and bow window, beautifully carved woodwork, open staircase, and beautiful beveled glass and etched windows. Outside features include a large covered front porch and a semicircular open verandah. The large lawn includes perennial gardens, fountain, patio and pool.

The Fahnestock House is designated a landmark by the Galesburg Landmark Commission and the Illinois State Survey of Architecturally Significant Structures; it is listed as an Anchor Structure by the National Register.
