No tour of the countryside would be complete without stopping at an
authentic rural church. Many country churches have closed their doors
due to a dwindling congregation, but the Orange Chapel United Methodist
Church, located at 951 Knox Highway 27, rural Gilson, has served the rural community since 1856. The original church
was made out of brick. The small, white chapel was built in 1900 and contains
many original stained glass windows. It contains an historic re-creation of the earlier sanctuary with the orginal pulpit and worship table. |

The Orange Chapel United Methodist Church invites everyone to join the
congregation for worship at 9:45 a.m. Sundays.
Indoor dining is available during the first two weekends in October.
Orange Chapel is famous for its chicken and noodles. Homemade pie, sandwiches, and drinks will also be served. Take-outs are available.
You can also find handmade crafts, learn the the art of spinning, and view 4-H club project displays.
The congregation will have
an unusual flea market, used to raise funds for the chapel. We won't
give you the details here, you are going to have to ask them about it
yourself, but you will be pleasantly surprised.
Before leaving, relax a bit, and visit
with the friendly folk who faithfully attend this serene church in the
middle of the countryside. And be sure to pick up some homemade peanut
brittle and baked goodies for snacking on later in the day.
